In our Partnership Agreement we noted that households praise God and grow closer with Christ by encouraging one another to pray. One simple way to pray together at the end of every day is by naming "thankfuls." Each person says 1--3 things (you set the number) for which he/she is thankful that day. "Thankfuls" can be as simple as new socks or sunshine. After everyone takes a turn, one person concludes with these or similar words:
"Thank you, God, for all the ways you show us that you love us. Give us restful sleep tonight and awaken us in the morning with gladness for another day of life. Bless us now in Jesus' name."
All can respond "Amen."
Expressing thankfulness in your own words pleases God. God doesn't require our gratitude, but appreciates hearing our thanks. Thinking about how we've been blessed each day builds an attitude of gratitude and a sense that we live a blessed life.
