When a person baptized in a Protestant denomination desires to become Catholic, they formally begin the process through the Rite of Welcome. A week ago siblings Wendy and Boyd Semken took that step during the 11:00 Sunday Mass. Boyd's parents, Esther and Marty Semken, who became Catholics in 2017, are serving as their Sponsors during the Rite of Christian Initiation process.
As Candidates, Wendy and Boyd are engaged in a formation process, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), to help them learn about and experience the teachings and practices of the Catholic Church. When they are ready, they will make a profession of faith, possibly at next year's Easter Vigil and receive the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. Because they are already baptized, they will not receive the sacrament of Baptism again.
